Kingfisher Charters & Lodge- When to Come
Many people believe the best time to fish Alaska is the month of
July. The fact is, fishing is great throughout the summer from mid May through the
early part of September. It all depends on what you want to catch and what you
want to experience. Weather can
be an issue in Southeast Alaska because it is unpredictable. We have included
weather information descriptions in the information below to help guide you.
However, since this is a
rainforest the only real bet is rain, although we can experience dry and
beautiful weather. So bring your suntan lotion!

May 1st -- June
9th |

In the
beginning of our season the main targets are king salmon,
halibut and rock fish. This can be very good fishing. We offer an
early season special of 4 days for the price of 3. This
package is offered because of the unpredictable of the weather and
fishing. It gives folks an extra day in case the weather is not as
friendly as later in the summer. However, many times the weather is
best in the month of May so roll the dice and see what happens.
There is also less fishing pressure due to less boats on the water.
This package offers a great experience to early groups. Weather is typically cooler with temperatures still in the mid to upper
40’s. The windy weather is beginning to taper off. |

Prime time for
King salmon! Anglers experience large numbers of school fish
with multiple hookups of skookum kings. This is an exciting time for
those interested in action fishing of king salmon before the
commercial fleet starts fishing. Halibut are moving in and are more
plentiful as are rock fish, If kings are your main goal this is the
time for you. Weather is typically warming with temperatures
in upper 40’s to mid 50’s and systems have become more stable.
Temperatures can be up in the 60’s and higher |

July 1st --
August 10th |
|
 |
This is a prime month to come fishing. It's a favorite time due
to the arrival of spectacular silver salmon. Mixing these with some
of the largest kings of the season makes for great and productive
fishing trips. Pinks and chums or dog salmon are also plentiful.
Halibut and bottom fishing can be very good, too. Given time to go
after big fish you can find some barn door sized halibuts. Weather becomes more stable. Statistically less rain fall during
the months of July and August. Temperatures rise to the mid 50’s and
higher, and can get into the 80’s. |

August 11th --
September 5th |

This is a prime silver or Coho salmon fishing with the silvers
sometimes up to 14 plus pounds. Brightly fighting like small kings
they are why people love to come this time of year. They have
beautiful red meat and are quite the acrobats of the salmon species.
Kings are still around and you can expect to occasionally catch a
nice one.
There's also the possibility of huge halibut. Halibut are in after
the salmon and large halibut can be expected if given the time to
find them. Weather is beginning to become less stable near the end
of August and from the last week in August to the 5th of
September we offer the late season special of 4 days for the price
of 3. |
