Alaska sportfishing report Kingfisher Lodge, June 17th 2014

Alaska salmon fishing at its best! Today we were looking at gale force winds predicted so leaving the dock shortly after 5 am we went straight to the fishing grounds in hopes of landing our salmon as our guests were only fishing a half day. When we reached open water the wind was blowing 25 knots and wave height at about 4 feet, by the time we reached our fishing destination the winds were gusting 30 to 35 knots but the minute we dropped in we hooked up 3 Kings and with a very fast drift we landed 4 Kings. The next two drifts we landed our 12 King salmon and released 4 others with a close to record time of 45 minutes to limit on King salmon of 12 fish. This was also a fiasco with the gusty winds blowing the boat so everyone had to work together to keep from loosing the fish as they ran about under and around the boat loosing only one to the spinning propellers. Back at the dock by 7:50 am!

Back to the dock by 8 am with limits of King salmon! Good Job!

Alaska fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska June 16th, 2014

Alaska sportfishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska. Today was outstanding again for the Alaska King salmon fishing as we limited on King salmon which was 12 fish by 9 am and most boats were doing the same in the area we were fishing off Sumez island. Halibut fishing was also very good when we finally found them althought their wasn’t any record breakers we were happy with the fish we landed. So far the fishing is reflective of the Alaska Department of fish and Game 2014 predictions of the Chinook or King salmon abundance. Photo’s below are an indication of what hopefully will continue this year.

Fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska, June 16th 2014

Saal (4)Today we had 12 anglers looking for Alaska King salmon and we needed 24 Kings total. The ocean predictions were 12′ seas so we were not that optimistic we could fish the ocean where we had been doing very well the few days before, but as we neared the ocean it was clear that it wasn’t that bad, the wind was down and the swell was managable. We stopped off Sumez island and withing minutes had 3 Kings on and as time went on more and more boats showed up and everyone was getting their fish and limiting very early. We then headed off to finish our halibut which was accomplished easy enough but no real size to our fish. The largest King of the day was 37.5 pounds and as far as we know leading the King salmon derby.

Alaska fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska, Friday June 13, 2014

Friday the 13th started out slow with us landing only 3 Kings early on and Joel only needing one King to tag out his guests went north while we were south. Many boats ended up off Sumez island but after several hours of few fish being landed boats started looking off shore as the seas had layed down after the previous days of westerlies. It wasn’t long before chatter on the radio was the Kings were there so off we went and as soon as the baits hit the bottom salmon were on and all boats were limiting in a few hours on King salmon. Friday the 13th ended great for the fishermen and not so good for the fish.

This morning fishing was incredible as both boats limited in King salmon by early morning landing 24 Kings. The largest King was 29 pounds but all fish were respectable size and with the 2 fish limit the guests were content with all fish landed. Weather and water conditions were very nice with sunny skies and moderate winds. Alaska salmon fishing is for now proving to be very productive in the Craig area.

Today fishing was tough for most boats as chatter on the radio was tough fishing, but Captaing Joel did well catching his limit of 12 King salmon and us coming in second catching only 6 on our boat. Being in the right spot at the right time makes all the difference in the world and if you are not were the fish are you will end up short which is what we did. We did get a few nice halibut though while salmon fishing which helped out a bunch. We put in a long day trying for those remaining 6 Kings but to no avail.

McIntyre 2June 10th fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge on Prince of Wales Island, Craig Alaska. On this day we had one boat out with six anglers on Captain Joel Steenstra’s boat with the McIntyre group. They came in with a great catch of 11 King salmon limits of Halibut, yellow eye and a few Ling cod. Good job since word was many boats struggled for their King salmon today.

June 4th thru June 9th 2014 fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska on Prince of Wales island Alaska. This week also produced limits of Kings with lots of fish in many areas of the islands. Boats that were out limiited easily and weather continued to be very nice but the last day we did get wind and some rain. I will post pictures later as I have misplaced my camera.

May 26th – May 29th 2014

Feld (5)Alaska Kingfisher Lodge fishing report for the last week of May. The week of May 26th thru the 29th was very good for King salmon in the Craig area with limits of Kings easily had and with the two fish per day limit and possession limit of 6 per non resident it was still very easy to land those limits this week of May. The largest fish of our groups was 32 pounds (note some of the fish below). We had both boats out this week with outstanding weather and incredible fishing landing limits of Kings in record time!

Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. August 22nd, 23rd & 24th the weather cooperated in the wind department as we had no wind issues or big waves as the group before which means that the whole summer minus a few days we had better than average weather by far in fact the best from my point of view in 20 years. Fishing continues to be outstanding to say the least for Coho’s and bottom fish. This group we did not focus on King salmon but only Silver salmon and Bottom fish. All three days Coho limits for 12 anglers were accomplished in a few hour each day and bottom fishing we put in more hours but ended up with spectacular catching and the photo’s from the last day show the finale of the 12 member group. 2013 will go down in my book as probably one of the best years of fishing for the past 20 years and maybe in the future we will also look back as a top year.
