Prince of Wales Sportfishing report and S.E. Alaska fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska for July 7th 2012. Today starting out with a 5 a.m. departure 20 knot winds¬† 50 degree temperatures, and rain so getting to our destination on the outside of Noyes Island was slow in areas of high tidal movement and wind but once we arrived to our destination the famous “Pinapple rock” being about the 5th boat or so there we figured to fish there till the Waterfall resort boats showed up en-mass and then we would move on. Catching was a bit slow but steady as we landed a King salmon, then hooked one loosing it to a big sea lion, then hooked another but was undersized so let it go, then eventually landing 5 nice 20 pound Kings there and never did leave since although there were lots of boats (25) everyone was spread out enough that it wasn’t too bad and since fishing was slow elsewhere we decided to stay put.¬† The “Trinity” captained by Joel Steenstra did well 2 days in a row landing his 4 kings in record time and heading off for bottom fishing. We got done with our 5 Kings by 11:30 and went out for halibut landing about 8 nice halibut letting 2 go over one hundred pounds but under the 68″ rule and retaining 4 nice 44″ butts, then calling it a day.
