Sportfishing report for Kingfisher lodge on Prince of Wales Island, Craig Alaska July 12th, 2012. Today was a great day to be a sport fisherman or a landlubber since the water was great for both as water was flat calm on the wide Pacific Ocean and light winds made it easy to be a ocean fisherman or angler. The west coast of Baker island was the choice for most charter fishermen and their clients as the salmon fishing there had been good the past few days. The 11th or previous day the Orca or Killer whales made their appearance and covered the whole Noyes and Baker islands probably laying waste to a fair amount of salmon so on the following morning it seemed all boats were marking fish on their sounders but biters were few and far between. Was it the Orca that put the fear into the fish was much speculation with us all…as it was if you stuck with it you finished up on your Chinook limit and did pretty well on Coho limits as well. Halibut fishing remained good and if you put effort into the fishery can come out pretty good with effort and a bit of luck. So the photographs show nice halibut from our groups and happy anglers were the result of the effort put forth.
