Kingfisher fishing report for July 21st thru July 23rd, 2015 in Craig Alaska. The past 3 days was probably at the top of the season for great trips for our groups as nice King and Coho salmon were moving in. It was apparent that most boats in the area were landing limits of King as well as silver salmon making everyone very happy. The weather forecast was for 30 knot winds on the 23rd but never did develop which really helped everyone have a great trip. Michael Drews landed the largest King salmon of the trip at 42 pounds so congrats to Mike on the big catch. He thought he was stuck on the bottom till the fish started to move, then it was “game on”. There have been some nice 50 pound plus fish being landed and I heard of a 70 plus also being landed by Waterfall resort, but not a confirmed weight on that. The silver salmon that we have been catching are of nice size so for those of you coming up it should continue to get better as the season progresses, also the trollers are telling me they are turning lots of King salmon loose as their season is over but appears many more Kings to migrate through our area. I will post more pictures of this group on the Facebook
page so you can click on the tab to the right to access that site. Thanks for checking the blog.
Alaska Kingfisher Lodge fishing report for July 18th thru July 20th, 2015. The past three days fishing with two families of 11 members brought lots of fun and laughs with our youngest at 7 years old although not the youngest in our fishing history. It wasn’t all about catching fish with these groups as the kids loved catching fish but they mostly enjoyed getting back to the lodge and swinging on the tree swing over the water, swimming and running in the woods. Catching fish was very productive though except the first day when all the kids had anti sea sick medicine and they had a really hard time keeping their eyes open to fish but after that got straightened out catching picked up. So for King salmon their seems to be plenty of them around if you have a bit of luck and are persistent can catch both limits of Kings as well as silvers. The Coho or Silvers are in good numbers landing limits again if patient and persistent. Halibut fishing remains good. David Stutz loves to look for big fish (been on Wicked Tuna twice for big Tuna, Australia for Black Marlin and Kingfisher Lodge for big halibut) Dave wanted the 80″ or bigger butt and so we went a looking landing the largest at 150 pounds landed by Debra Jordan, and many in the 100 pound and under but finding not close to the 80 inch mark. A King salmon derby contender was landed yesterday by Wayne Baxter from Klawock at 64 pounds (fishing with Rich Manning who owns Catch a King lodge). Wayne is a huge contributor and organizer for Craig-Klawock King salmon derby so I really hope Wayne wins, Good job Wayne and Rich!
The past three days was a hoot and look forward for another year with these folks. Check out the Facebook page for more pictures and thanks for checking in with us.
Alaska fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig July 14th thru July 16th, 2015. These past 3 days King salmon fishing was very good as more King salmon have moved into the area as well as Silvers or Coho salmon. Although we didn’t catch limits of silvers the first two days we did limit on King salmon for the three days and day 3 landed limits of silvers for both boats. Most charter boats were doing the same landing limits of King salmon as well as mostly limits of Coho or were limiting out. Halibut and bottom fishing remains good. I will post more pictures on our Facebook page if you want to visit it click on the link to the right of the blog. Thanks for reading.
Alaska Fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska Prince of Wales island for July 5th thru July 8th, 2015. We had 3 groups in for a total of 14 guests fishing off of 3 boats, two of ours and one Catch a King boat. King salmon fishing was very good with boats landing limits of Kings (one per day July regulation) and mostly landing limits of Coho or Silver salmon along with bottom fish. “Clincher’s Cove” (inside story on the name) was a great spot that produced a nice bunch of King salmon as well as regulation size halibut along with one about 150 pounds that Blake had to release due to the slot size needed to be 80 inches long to keep. During the 3 days most anglers landed limits of King salmon and close to limits of Silvers every day.
Alaska Fishing report June 27th thru June 30th, 2015 for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska. We had a group of 10 in for the past 4 days from Alberta Canada, Wisconsin and Illinois. King salmon fishing was a bit scratchy or we had to work for our limits even though we had 4 days to accomplish landing a total of 60 King salmon for the 10 guests. The first day both boats landed limits of King salmon, and halibut, the other days were less productive, but in 4 days we landed the total bag limits for a non resident. The last day was a bonus day landing limits of silvers as well so all in all the trip was a huge success and we again enjoyed the group from Alberta Canada. Check out our Facebook page for more pictures of the trips.
Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge on Prince of Wales island for June 23rd thru June 25th 2015. King salmon fishing at Kingfisher Lodge was very good for our two boats and 12 anglers landing 66 King salmon in 3 days the largest in at 30.5 pounds caught by Butch Smith. Butch caught a 30 pound as well the same day so congrats to Butch and Joel who was guiding him. The first two days we landed our limits of King salmon or 24 per day for the two days and today we had a rougher day only landing 9 per boat. My boat had our opportunities to land our limit but broke them off or just had the hooks come out. We were trolling some of the time and it ended up being a 50/50 as far as troll caught and mooching caught King salmon. The King salmon were feeding exclusively on squid so the trolling worked well due to the fact that was what they were feeding on.
Halibut and bottom fishing was also very good landing limits of Yellow eye as well as Ling cod as the pictures show. I will post more pictures on our Facebook page. Thanks for checking out our blog.
Prince of Wales sport fishing report for June 19th thru June 21st 2015 at Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska. The past 3 days fishing for our group of 12 was pretty good overall but it went as follows. The weather all three days was outstanding with flat calm seas and partly cloudy to clear skies as the days progressed. First day fishing both boats landed their limits and many boats in the Craig area doing the same by the sound of it on the radio. Day two was a different story and almost every boat struggled to get the King salmon my boat only landing 3 and Joels boat landing 6 for the day. Day 3 was much better with 21 Kings landed between 12 anglers and sounded like more fish were landed with the other charter boats as well.
Alaska fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska on Prince of Wales island June 14th thru the 17. This week we had very good weather for fishing as winds were light for the most part and seas were only 3 feet or so which made fishing the outer coast a pleasant experience and the ability to fish many other spots that in rough weather are out of the question. Overall we did very well considering the fishing or numbers of fish are down from last year but one has to remember that the limit now being 2 King salmon per day puts the stakes much higher for the guides as with a normal limit of one per day would make the year a average or better than average year for King salmon numbers. For the 3 days fishing Joel’s boat landed its limit of 36 King salmon where my boat fell short by 12 Kings we landing only 24 Kings. Not to say we didn’t have our opportunities. I am not sure of how the other charter boats were doing but what I gathered on the radio chatter it has been tougher for most captains to limit on King salmon. Halibut fishing has been pretty good and it seems that larger fish are starting to show up as the season progresses. Here are a few pictures of the last three days fishing and I will post more pictures on our Facebook page as well.
June 5th thru June 8th 2015 fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge near Craig Alaska Prince of Wales island. These 4 days we had 10 anglers mostly from the Las Vegas and Phoenix Arizona during this time we had average SE weather but better than average fishing as we landed King salmon limits for all anglers in the 4 days of fishing.
May 31 thru June 3rd fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge on Prince of Wales island Craig Alaska. We had a total of 16 guests for our lodge this week which is a bunch for us but fishing and weather was cooperative with us as our folks came from all over the US. The 4 days of fishing with the liberal King salmon limits for the non resident in 2015 of 6 per season ( up from the normal 3) left us with 96 kings to catch in 4 days so as it turned out we landed 95 King salmon in the 4 days which was really an outstanding trip for us all and weather was fantastic as well.
