August 1st

August 1st Prince of Wales sportfishing report from Craig Alaska at Kingfisher lodge is that fishing for kings remained steady but the silver salmon seems to be tapering off. Today the Trinity guided by Joel Steenstra landed its limit of kings the largest by Neil DeGhetaldi at 38 pounds. They also landed their limit of silver salmon and halibut. The Jeanette Elaine only landed one king salmon at 30.2 pounds and the limit of silver salmon and halibut, as well as ling cod.
Weather was light rain and calm winds.

July 27th

July 27th we left Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska for Diamond point with the Jeanette Elaine in search of Silver salmon and King salmon, while the Trinity headed for Hog rock for the same. The Jeanette Elaine crew had one king salmon and 29 silver salmon by 7:30 am so catching was very good for the silver salmon. We were using the mooching technique which of course is a proven and very effective method which gives the angler most enjoyment and frustration at times. The Trinity in the mean time had two king salmon and 10 coho’s about the same time so we headed up to see if we could get our limit of King salmon. We arrived at Hog rock where there were about 20 boats fishing pretty close together. We worked the area over for an hour or so then headed out for halibut returning to land one more king for a total of 3 kings landed one released for undersized. The Trinity landed 5 king salmon with the largest being 30.3 pounds. So limits of salmon and halibut were the order of the day.

July 15th we left the dock at Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska at about 5:15 arriving at the same spot we were the previous day.We expected to start out the same as the day before with tripples and doubles, but possibly with the tide 50 minutes or so later our alaska silver salmon did not show up for about that long.  When it began it was one here, one there followed by steady catching. We also caught 2 king salmon while fishing for the silver salmon which was what we wanted to happen. By 8:15 we had our 36 silver salmon, 2 kings and a couple rock fish. We decided to head for bottom fish grounds as the ocean was much calmer than yesterday. Catching started slow there as well but soon had yellow eye, ling cod, and picked up one halibut and one medium sized octopus. After that we headed for some halibut fishing and finished up on those fairly quickly landing all between 32″ and 37″ so had a good rack of quality halibut within the new alaska halibut regulation in unit 2C. After the halibut fishing we headed for a black sea bass pinnacle and got our limit of those pretty quickly and headed in for the dock by 1 pm. Craig Alaska weather was overcast skies, calm winds, flat water on the inside with a 6 foot sea running on the outside. No puking today!
