Prince of Wales sport fishing report for June 19th thru June 21st 2015 at Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska. The past 3 days fishing for our group of 12 was pretty good overall but it went as follows. The weather all three days was outstanding with flat calm seas and partly cloudy to clear skies as the days progressed. First day fishing both boats landed their limits and many boats in the Craig area doing the same by the sound of it on the radio. Day two was a different story and almost every boat struggled to get the King salmon my boat only landing 3 and Joels boat landing 6 for the day. Day 3 was much better with 21 Kings landed between 12 anglers and sounded like more fish were landed with the other charter boats as well.
May 31 thru June 3rd fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge on Prince of Wales island Craig Alaska. We had a total of 16 guests for our lodge this week which is a bunch for us but fishing and weather was cooperative with us as our folks came from all over the US. The 4 days of fishing with the liberal King salmon limits for the non resident in 2015 of 6 per season ( up from the normal 3) left us with 96 kings to catch in 4 days so as it turned out we landed 95 King salmon in the 4 days which was really an outstanding trip for us all and weather was fantastic as well.
Alaska sportfishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska August 1st 2014. The past 3 days we were blessed with wonderful people, sunny skies, and flat water mixed with outstanding fishing landing limits of King salmon and Silver salmon each day as well as nice halibut and bottom fish. Since we have been fishing alone for a week or so our information is sketchy at best but what I hear is most boats are getting limits of King salmon and most of their silver salmon if not all of the limits in the Craig area. It appears the the Colombia river fish are showing up in good numbers with our guests landing and releasing many Kings trying to get their limits of Silver salmon so many of our long returning guests rate this week for them as the best ever in the past 20 years which says quite a bit, this of course has to do with the abundance of King salmon in the area rather than the Silver salmon since those numbers are down from 2013.
Alaska sportfishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska for the last week of July 2014. Although it appeared that the catch rate for Coho salmon has dropped the last week of July off the outer coast of Prince of Wales island fishing was still very good for King salmon and bottom fish including halibut. We limited on King salmon everyday but were short on Silver salmon on all but the last day in which Joel having 6 anglers landed their limits of big Coho or Silver salmon as well as limits of King salmon. After 15 years of fishing at our lodge Bob Cormack said it was his best day of fishing as he remembers. The local charter boats seem to be catching more and more fish as the rain, wind, and bigger tides may have brought more fish into the area as the migration of salmon builds off the outer coast and inside waters. The Colombia river has estimated 1.6 million Chinook or King salmon returning to that system this fall and we are for sure getting our share of those fish here as the information from the coded tags we have been catching conclude this.
Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska July 6th, 2014. The next three days we have 12 anglers looking to catch limits of King salmon, silver salmon, halibut and other bottom fish and today we fished off Noyes island. Joel’s boat landed their 6 King salmon pretty early in the morning while we were at 3 for much of the morning then going off Baker island we were able to find a nice bunch of King salmon as well as Silvers landing a total of 25 silvers for two boats which is quite a bit less than last year at this time. Our halibut we landed while salmon fishing getting some nice 38 to 40″ fish.
Alaska salmon fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska. Fishing off the outer coast today was very good early and then later in the afternoon as well. We landed limits of Kings and had to let a few go as well as landing a 37.2 pound King salmon. Cori had requesteds a 40 pound King salmon when we left the dock this morning for his 10th wedding anniversary and the last salmon of the day was this 37.2 pound fish a few pounds under but a “Tyee” all the same, good job Cori!

Alaska salmon fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, in Craig Alaska for June 24th. Today we left the dock at 5 am and headed off Cape Felix since that has been the best salmon fishing in the Craig area. Today was good fishing but we had to work for our fish while Joel finished up early on his 12 King salmon we were still at 7 and needed 5 more. The bite seemed to slow down and as there had been many boats from the local lodges they were beginning to thin out either by limiting or getting impatient and looking elsewhere. We stuck it out and in the end there was only a handfull of boats but the bite came on again later and we were able to finish up with a great catch of Alaska salmon.
Alaska salmon fishing at its best! Today we were looking at gale force winds predicted so leaving the dock shortly after 5 am we went straight to the fishing grounds in hopes of landing our salmon as our guests were only fishing a half day. When we reached open water the wind was blowing 25 knots and wave height at about 4 feet, by the time we reached our fishing destination the winds were gusting 30 to 35 knots but the minute we dropped in we hooked up 3 Kings and with a very fast drift we landed 4 Kings. The next two drifts we landed our 12 King salmon and released 4 others with a close to record time of 45 minutes to limit on King salmon of 12 fish. This was also a fiasco with the gusty winds blowing the boat so everyone had to work together to keep from loosing the fish as they ran about under and around the boat loosing only one to the spinning propellers. Back at the dock by 7:50 am!
This morning fishing was incredible as both boats limited in King salmon by early morning landing 24 Kings. The largest King was 29 pounds but all fish were respectable size and with the 2 fish limit the guests were content with all fish landed. Weather and water conditions were very nice with sunny skies and moderate winds. Alaska salmon fishing is for now proving to be very productive in the Craig area.
Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. August 19th was again forecasted for heavy seas and 20 knot winds although we fished on the inside and kept out of the big water and my boat landed our Silver salmon in close to town while Joel and his crew went and tested the outside waters. They were happy to find a nice spot with a large swell but no wind and pleasant fishing with great catching of big Coho’s landing their limits in short order. Halibut fishing was again good with our boat landing a nice limit of 35″ to 45″ butts, and Joel’s boat landing a nice 68″ 170 pound halibut by Talon Stephan. Joel was guiding the Stephan family from North Dakota for their family fishing vacation and they said it was their best family vacation ever which says quite a bit for this area and their captain.
