My fishing report for our Alaska fishing lodge in Craig Alaska on Prince of Wales island. With the season tapering off we only had one group of 6 people at the lodge and thus only running one boat. Coho fishing for the last three days was good with a few short the first and third day. However this was made up by the large size ranging from 12-16 lbs. that allowed everybody to go home with 2 fish boxes each.
Halibut fishing was very good, allowing us to get limits every day except for the first day where we ended being one short. However we had to release 4 oversized halibut with the biggest being 140 lbs. Russell Ruder was the lucky chosen one that had to tangle with the halibut for approximately 35 minutes before we were able to release it.
That was all for this season, now we are off to the Alaska Range to go for sheep and moose hunting. To sum it all up it was a great season and we wish all our guests the best until we see them again next year.
A sportfishing report for our Alaska fishing lodge on Prince of Wales island in Craig Alaska for the above dates. The past three days we had 14 anglers, weather and fishing was very good. Wind died down and ocean conditions were very good and catch rates were great landing limits of Coho and Halibut all three days as well as limits of Ling cod. Coho were of a very large average of at least 10 pounds the largest being 17 pounds.
Boats or lodges that kept to the inside waters struggled for limits, offshore was the place to be this past 3 days.
We have 6 more fishing days at our lodge so hope the fish and weather cooperate!!
My fishing report for our Alaska fishing lodge in Craig Alaska for the above dates. Last 4 days fishing was again good and then died off or got much slower the last day for this group. The first two days we saw limits of Silver or Coho salmon then the third day drop off dramatically. Many boats came back to the dock without limits of Coho the last day as boats searched all the points and usual drags hoping to find the fish in some kind of numbers.
A few King salmon are still being caught and heard the seiners were catching big ones off Granite Point this last opener. Granite has been too rough to check out lately due to weather. Trollers are struggling to find Coho salmon, but that could change at any time if fish move into the area. We are hoping for that change as we still have a few weeks left of fishing.
Thanks for reading my report and will post more pictures on Facebook page.
Alaska fishing report for July 6th thru the 8th, Prince of Wales sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska, an Alaska sport fishing lodge. The past 3 days fishing was very good for us landing some really nice King salmon and halibut. This group had pre-purchased 4 GAF halibut which gave us the option to keep 4 halibut any size in addition to the regular 1 halibut daily limit but with the size restriction of 43 inches. GAF or Guided Angler Fish is when the lodge sets up a lease from a commercial permit holder of halibut and then the angler who wants a halibut of any size will pay the fee for that fish which reimburses the cost of the lease, roughly about $400/fish. The Pat Dylan group had set this up this spring and had pre-purchased the 4 fish, so we spent an afternoon looking for big ones landing and keeping 4, but also releasing at least 7 other very large halibut as we looked for our daily limit halibut. There was also some very nice ling cod and yellow eye landed over the course of the 3 days.
King salmon fishing was very good for us as well limiting each day with our second day a larger strain of fish moved in so we landed two at 46 and 47 pounds as well as 3 or 4 in the 30 pound range, the next day those fish seemed to have moved on although Joel’s boat landed a couple in the 30’s on the last day.
Coho fishing remains spotty and low numbers for now but we expect that to change at any day as the fish move in, our best day was about 16 Coho for 12 anglers. Reports are there are schools of fish off shore so our optimism remains high that we will have a consistent Coho fishery this season. I have posted more pictures and video on our Facebook page so please click on the Facebook emblem on the upper right corner to check them out. Thanks again for reading my reports!
The fishing or catching the past three days was first of all sunny skies and beautiful ocean and again King salmon limits could be caught and we did pretty good landing almost all our daily limit of King salmon over the 3 day period but fell far short on our Silver salmon. Joel limited one day on the silvers but we were far short on 2 of the 3 days and so put our time in fishing for King salmon and bottom fish. We did land some nice fish though with some great Lings and Yellow eye.
S.E. Alaska Fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge July 25th thru July 28th, 2015. We had 2 separate groups in the O’Grady and Cormack groups both families bringing sons, grandsons, and a grand daughter, 12 in all. The King salmon fishing was very good with limits being had most days although we fell a few short overall, but the Coho fishing was outstanding as well as halibut fishing. Most all boats in the Craig area were limiting on Silver salmon and some or many boats limiting on King salmon during this week. More pictures will be added to the Facebook pages.
Alaska fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig July 14th thru July 16th, 2015. These past 3 days King salmon fishing was very good as more King salmon have moved into the area as well as Silvers or Coho salmon. Although we didn’t catch limits of silvers the first two days we did limit on King salmon for the three days and day 3 landed limits of silvers for both boats. Most charter boats were doing the same landing limits of King salmon as well as mostly limits of Coho or were limiting out. Halibut and bottom fishing remains good. I will post more pictures on our Facebook page if you want to visit it click on the link to the right of the blog. Thanks for reading.
S.E. Alaska Fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska, July 1st thru July 4th, 2015. This past 3 days we had 15 anglers fishing in 3 boats two of ours and one with Catch a King charters was hired for the group of 4 from San Diego California. King salmon fishing was pretty good if the boats focused on catching them, Joel’s boat out fished us all three days as Joel made the right moves each day and although he had a almost totally green or inexperience crew who had never fished the limited on Kings almost every day landing 16 or 17 Kings in 3 days for 6 anglers, my boat landing 11 Kings for 5 anglers and Blake’s boat landing 5 Kings for 4 anglers. Silver salmon fishing was average as the silvers are a bit spotty as the runs build in strength. Check out our Facebook page for more pictures of this groups fish, thanks for reading the blog or my fishing report!
June 5th thru June 8th 2015 fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge near Craig Alaska Prince of Wales island. These 4 days we had 10 anglers mostly from the Las Vegas and Phoenix Arizona during this time we had average SE weather but better than average fishing as we landed King salmon limits for all anglers in the 4 days of fishing.
Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska a family run lodge. The past three days the fishing remained strong although appeared to slow down on the Silver salmon fishing on the last day of the trip but we still landed all our Coho’s by early morning for 12 anglers which a good thing to happen. All boats that were out were landing limits in similar time and most were out looking for bottom fish by at least late morning. Halibut fishing was very good as the picture shows with both boats releasing 6 – 8 oversized halibut in the 75 lb. to 150 pound range. The picture below is the only one the group took in 3 days fishing as the pictures were not important to them so this is all I have. Three more days of fishing for us this season. Most lodges in the Craig area have put their boats up for winter except for a few of us still left. By the end of August I believe all the lodges in the Craig area will have closed their doors. Weather has been outstanding this past few weeks with very little wind making fishing a pure pleasure as you can see by the beautiful sunrise picture I have posted on our way out early in the morning.
