Sport fishing report from Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska fishing the outer coast of Prince of Wales Island in S.E Alaska. Kingfisher Lodge is a family run catering to family vacations. Today we have a father-son-brother trip with some of our old time customers, and  today was their day as we had a field day catching King salmon, Silver salmon and Halibut and the pictures will say a thousand words to the happiness we see on the faces of these guys. The King salmon were plentiful to day as well as the Halibut with the largest King of the day at 31 pounds.  Dan Dahlgren from Seattle Washington landed a nice 192 pound 73 inch butt that kept him on the rod for over an hour fighting this tough fish and we were happy that it taped out at 73 inches with our scale weighing it in at 192 pounds  making it the largest at the lodge for the year so far. The ocean was pretty rough with 8 foot seas and wind chop on top making it difficult to fight the fish,  but was worth the time spent. Dan did a great job and we congratulate him on his catch both in it’s size and the roughness of the sea

Captain Joel Steenstra’s boat landed all his King, Silver salmon and Halibut with his group of 6 as well and will get the picture and post it later of the guys and their catch.

June 26th sportfishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska

Craig Sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge on the 26th of June was another spectacular day of fishing or catching I should say. Both groups did extremely well on both Kings, Silvers and Halibut. Amedeo Angelo landed a beautiful monster Halibut today which he was dearly wanting. After making the comment that he wanted a big one, he got his wish. Amedeo just returned from Africa after killing a 13 year old 600 pound African Lion and for him Landing this big Halibut was another dream of his although a much safer sport.

June 22nd sportfishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska

June 22nd sportfishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska and S.E. Alaska outside waters off Prince of Wales island. King salmon fishing remains very good with limits very easy to catch. The size of the King salmon are medium size in some areas and just legal in others where school fish are concentrated. Our largest King for this group in 3 days was 30 pounds and an average size of probably 23 pounds per King in the round weight. Today my boat caught no Silver salmon and Joel’s boat landed 6. Word is there are limits of Silvers to be had in some areas although we concentrated on larger halibut and our efforts were rewarded with one over 68″ and several nice 42-45″ butts. Neil Johnke landed his trophy halibut after several hours of hunting for a over 68″ butt.  Neil got almost spooled as the halibut took off stripping out over 400 feet of Tuff Line on the Shimano TLD 20 2 speed reel and a Seeker SHS-60 Jigging rod. He landed the fish after a good half hour fight. Joel’s boat landed several 42-45″ butts and released a nice 64″ Halibut.

Water remained calm with light winds. Today writing this blog the skies are sunny and light west wind blowing 70 degree temperature.
