August 18th

Prince of Wales sportfishing report for kingfisher lodge near Craig Alaska for August 18th. Today we awakened to flat water and light clouds. We checked out a few local spots landing one silver and then headed west we fished where we had been a few days ago landing 16 silver salmon in about one half hour and then the catching died off and it was a slow pick from there. We spotted a few boats running here and there and a group of boats had headed north to Cape Alice off Hecata island and word was the catching was pretty good with limits in a few hours but fish were small. Today we landed 26 silver salmon, 6 halibut, a ling cod and a few rock fish for the day. We hope to hang in where we have been and not have to head north and that the next few days more fish will move in. Weather forcast is for gale force winds so hopefully the storm will hold off for a few more days….

July 27th

July 27th we left Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska for Diamond point with the Jeanette Elaine in search of Silver salmon and King salmon, while the Trinity headed for Hog rock for the same. The Jeanette Elaine crew had one king salmon and 29 silver salmon by 7:30 am so catching was very good for the silver salmon. We were using the mooching technique which of course is a proven and very effective method which gives the angler most enjoyment and frustration at times. The Trinity in the mean time had two king salmon and 10 coho’s about the same time so we headed up to see if we could get our limit of King salmon. We arrived at Hog rock where there were about 20 boats fishing pretty close together. We worked the area over for an hour or so then headed out for halibut returning to land one more king for a total of 3 kings landed one released for undersized. The Trinity landed 5 king salmon with the largest being 30.3 pounds. So limits of salmon and halibut were the order of the day.
