May 27th started out with beautiful weather, calm winds and sunny skies. We started fishing with 2 boats in front of the l0dge and within a hour landing 4 nice bright king salmon between two boats. From Port St. Nicholas we went out to our outer fishing spots and before long landed our limits of King salmon. Halibut fishing was productive as well but fish are fewer as the season is early and finding lots of large halibut can be a time consuming endeavor. Our largest halibut was under 44 inches but limits were landed so we were happy about that.
Craig fishing report at Kingfisher lodge is that fishing has remained very good in almost all areas fished. Boats are spread out if weather is permitting and King salmon, silver salmon and legal sized halibut, ling cod, red snapper are in abundance. Limits for coho salmon are being caught at very good time ratio’s as well as king salmon, although the king salmon limits might not all be met. Today a group of 12 on 2 boats had their silver limits by 10 am or so which is 72 fish as well as 5 king salmon. Nebraska folks are very happy but don’t like the roll the ocean had to offer.
July 10th we left the dock at Kingfisher Lodge in Craig in calm waters headed for Noyes Island in search of our limits of King salmon. Our first stop was the Chicken hole which produced nothing in the half hour of fishing. We continued on off the west coast of Noyes Island where the previous day the fishing had been very good from the reports. It started out pretty slow for us and most other boats as I got antsy we headed north to Roller bay and immediatly caught 3 coho’s and a king salmon. We continued making drifts landing halibut, black sea bass, silver salmon and another king salmon. Reports were that catching had gotten pretty good where we had been so we ended up back north of Shaft rock and started landing silvers and king salmon which the end result was 7 king salmon landed, 14 silver salmon landed and 4 or 5 silvers lost. Most boats limited on King salmon and had a mixed count of silver salmon. The ocean was very calm with very light winds and sunny skies. Great day.
