July 14th we left Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska at 5 am heading for the southern waters as word was the silver salmon had moved in. We stopped off Sumez island and dropped into a wide open salmon bite landing 36 coho’s, 3 chums 4 pinks, and loosing one king salmon by 7:30 am. We tried a few other spots for King salmon but no luck and decided to try for some big halibut just for fun since we can’t keep any over 37″. No big halibut were found but we did get the crew sick and within an hour 3 of the 6 were out of comission. We changed our plan and moved to another spot landing our limit of halibut under the 37″ rule in an hour and then needed to get the guys back to flat water. We went back inside landing more silvers and releasing them looking for the king salmon but no luck for us today on the king’s. First day in 60 over days we haven’t boated a king, but also first day to boat over 40 silver salmon. Word is wide open coho’s up and down the coast near Craig.
