Fishing report for July 10th thru the 12th for the Alaska fishing lodge Kingfisher in Craig Alaska. The past three days we had three separate groups in. All three days each group landed limits of kings except one boat was minus one King salmon for the 3 days fishing so King salmon are obviously still in good numbers. Coho was slow the 1st 2 days but picked up considerably up and down the outer coast of the Craig area with most charter boats doing very well if not limiting on the silvers. Our best day was 27 Coho for 6 anglers on my boat but we also ran out of bait as we were assaulted by large schools of pink salmon having six at a time on of the pesky fish.

Halibut have also moved in in certain areas in good numbers and have had to release many over 43 inches. The Fish and Game reported they had some issues with some oversize halibut that were retained by some charter vessels, so if your guide releases one that looks really good just remember he is doing his job and obeying the law that is in place.

Nothing exciting to add only looking good and this summer is looking like the fish numbers are consistently strong and building…..so we knock on wood and hope it continues throughout the summer. Check out the Facebook page clicking on the upper right hand Facebook emblem. Thanks for reading my report!

Craig Alaska Kingfisher Lodge Fishing report for July 9th thru July 12th, 2015. King salmon fishing for Kingfisher Lodge the past 3 days was good if you consider landing limits of Kings good although it wasn’t red hot we were able to land the limits over the past 3 days. Coho or Silver salmon fishing started out good for this 3 day trip but petered out each successive day landing only a couple limits the last day per boat. Alaska fish and Game checkers reported landings were down overall in the charter fleet with many boats not limiting on Kings or Silver salmon. We are optimistic that the Coho runs will continue to build as the summer progresses and King salmon will also continue to be strong. Bottom fishing has remained good this summer. Please check out our Facebook page for more photo’s.

Pat Dylan group with a great catch of fish!

Alaska Fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska Prince of Wales island for July 5th thru July 8th, 2015. We had 3 groups in for a total of 14 guests fishing off of 3 boats, two of ours and one Catch a King boat. King salmon fishing was very good with boats landing limits of Kings (one per day July regulation) and mostly landing limits of Coho or Silver salmon along with bottom fish. “Clincher’s Cove” (inside story on the name) was a great spot that produced a nice bunch of King salmon as well as regulation size halibut along with one about 150 pounds that Blake had to release due to the slot size needed to be 80 inches long to keep. During the 3 days most anglers landed limits of King salmon and close to limits of Silvers every day.

Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska July 6th, 2014. The next three days we have 12 anglers looking to catch limits of King salmon, silver salmon, halibut and other bottom fish and today we fished off Noyes island. Joel’s boat landed their 6 King salmon pretty early in the morning while we were at 3 for much of the morning then going off Baker island we were able to find a nice bunch of King salmon as well as Silvers landing a total of 25 silvers for two boats which is quite a bit less than last year at this time. Our halibut we landed while salmon fishing getting some nice 38 to 40″ fish.

Fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska, June 16th 2014

Saal (4)Today we had 12 anglers looking for Alaska King salmon and we needed 24 Kings total. The ocean predictions were 12′ seas so we were not that optimistic we could fish the ocean where we had been doing very well the few days before, but as we neared the ocean it was clear that it wasn’t that bad, the wind was down and the swell was managable. We stopped off Sumez island and withing minutes had 3 Kings on and as time went on more and more boats showed up and everyone was getting their fish and limiting very early. We then headed off to finish our halibut which was accomplished easy enough but no real size to our fish. The largest King of the day was 37.5 pounds and as far as we know leading the King salmon derby.

Chuck with Glenn and his 168 pound trophy halibut!

Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska. August 22nd, 23rd & 24th the weather cooperated in the wind department as we had no wind issues or big waves as the group before which means that the whole summer minus a few days we had better than average weather by far in fact the best from my point of view in 20 years. Fishing continues to be outstanding to say the least for Coho’s and bottom fish. This group we did not focus on King salmon but only Silver salmon and Bottom fish. All three days Coho limits for 12 anglers were accomplished in a few hour each day and bottom fishing we put in more hours but ended up with spectacular catching and the photo’s from the last day show the finale of the 12 member group. 2013 will go down in my book as probably one of the best years of fishing for the past 20 years and maybe in the future we will also look back as a top year.

Captain Chuck with Carl Vedders 178 pound trophy Halibut.

Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska.  August 15th we left the lodge with no wind, flat water, overcast skies, and high in the mid 60’s which was a great day to catch Silver salmon and bottom fish. We started locally for our Coho’s and landing a few limits moved on to the outer coast which was a little slower landing the limits of 66 Coho for 11 anglers but completed the job by 10 am then off for our Halibut and Ling cod, yellow eye as we needed a few more to tag out for the group. The group landed a great catch of fish in the 40″ to 45″ size range then Carl Vedders landed a beautiful 69 1/2 inch trophy weighing in at 178 pounds. When he brought it up it had a flasher in it’s mouth as it had eaten a Silver salmon off a troller and got the hoochi and flasher as a memento, so when she came up that flasher was along side her and would have been interesting to see how hard it pulled on the trollers lines. After the excitement from the group from landing the trophy halibut we went off to fish for our ling Cod and Jeff Nelson landed a beautiful trophy ling taping in at just 45″ which is the maximum in the slot limit unless you land one over 55″ which we have not done yet.

Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska for August 14th we were again greeted by flat calm water as we left the dock at 5 am and returning to our fishing destination from the previous day we started fishing at about 6 am after watching a seiner land a net load of fish. The catching was obviously substantially slower as we could see that out of 5 boats in our vicinity that few fish were being caught compared to yesterday. We stuck it out for an hour or so landing 9 Silvers on our boat and Joel landing only 2. We decided to backtrack to a spot we had done well a few days ago and sure enough they were there so we landed our Silvers by 10:30 and then off to find our Halibut which we were pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality of these butts so in no time both boats limited on the beauties and off to the lodge as the boys had emptied the coolers of all beer and bottle of Crown and were getting pretty thirsty.

Steve Hall group with another outstanding catch of fish!

Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig, Prince of Wales Island, Alaska.  August 13th we left the lodge with light winds and flat water, overcast skies, and high in the mid 60’s which was a great day to catch King salmon, Silver salmon and bottom fish. We started at the Pineapple rock which was awful dead looking and left after 15 minutes or so then moved north and dropping in tripled on beautiful King salmon, then it was non stop catching of big Coho’s or Silver salmon (most of these fish are averaging 10 pounds) until our limit was met at 8:30 a.m. Joel’s boat landed the largest trophy Silver of the year to date, here at Kingfisher Lodge at just over 18 pounds by Clint Olsen. Halibut fishing proved to be a great day as we landed several in the 40 to 45 inch range as well as some beauties at 60 or so inches that we had to let go due to the slot limit but the guys got a kick out of bringing them up. All these fish we turn loose are still full of vigor as they speed to the bottom or just swim off as we release them which makes us all feel good knowing they will survive another day and continue to perpetuate.

July 15th sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge, Craig Alaska

Sport fishing report from Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska fishing the outer coast of Prince of Wales Island in S.E Alaska. Fishing or catching remains outstanding as limits of King salmon and Coho’s or Silver salmon are easily caught by early morning as these fish are everywhere. Today was no different as limits were easily acquired by early morning then off to the halibut fishing where both boats had to release oversized halibut but did land some nice ones under 45″ but no over 68″.
