Fishing

Kingfisher Lodge fishing report, Craig Alaska 17th of June, 2025.

It has been about 9 days since our last fishing report from Kingfisher Charters and Lodge i Craig, Alaska. We have seen some great customers come and leave, many of them returning guests but also new guests that we have gotten to know.

The weather pattern is still fairly unstable. One day it being sunny and calm seas, the next being very wet and windy with winds blowing up to 30 mph. We hope that it gets more stable soon and we definitely looking forward to some sunnier days.

The King Salmon fishing is still good to fair considering the low abundance index for this season. A lot of the fishing as of late has been conducted around Noyes Island. Some boats are hooking close to a dozen King Salmon per day. We are also seeing some nicer King Salmon hitting the decks being in the mid to high 20 lbs range.

The halibut fishing is also good to fair. Off shore fishing the numbers of halibut is good even though some sorting is needed in order to get a limit of quality sized halibut. The fishing for GAF (oversized) halibut, we are experiencing being a bit slower than normal resulting in the boats having to spend more time than normal in order to get a good sized GAF halibut, these tend to be in 100+ lbs range.

Fishing for black bass and Lingcod is good and we are enjoying spending more time trying to find legal Lingcod. They are fairly abundant in the area but with a small slot limit of 30-35 inches, we have to release many that are either too big or too small.

We are now looking forward to July 1st when we are going to be able to target Yelloweye Rockfish (Red Snapper) after they have been completely shut down for harvest the last few years.
