Prince of Wales Sport fishing report July 22nd, 2025
July 22, 2025
Let’s start off by talking about the salmon fishing. After having pretty positive report in my last post, I have to say the salmon fishing has slowed down. In my experience you can see that after the first batch of cohos show up, there will be a bit of a void before they show up in good numbers again. We are still getting pretty good numbers with boats getting limits or very close to limits most days, but the fishing is pretty slow and we have to spend 3-6 hours per day to get close to our limit. Also the pattern seems like they are not staying on feed (baitfish) meaning they are just cruising by towards the headwaters of Klawock river where the majority of our cohos come from.
Regarding yelloweye and lingcod fishing it is really good when the weather allows it. Specially the yelloweye are very plentiful as they have not been targeted by sportfisherman over that last few years due to regulations.
Halibut fishing is still good, both for “keepers” (the daily limit of halibut that are less than 37″) and oversized halibut (GAF). This go around the boats brought in 10 GAF halibut ranging from 55″ to 68″.
Regarding the weather we saw a pattern change with the winds switching to a northwest for the foreseeable future. This has finally brought the sun out again after having a really wet and grey month of June. It is also finally starting to warm up a little bit and we are seeing temps up towards 60-65 Fahrenheit.
