Sportfishing Report for Kingfisher Charters in Craig, Alaska. 30th of July, 2026.

I apologize for not having done a report as of late. Things got a bit hectic and I missed doing a report a few days ago. Over the last week we have had 2 go arounds with groups. It has been a pretty successful 7 days.

As you can see on our pictures, our main priority is still King Salmon. Fishing has been good considering the time of year we are at. Normally King Salmon would have trickled down by now and also our focus would have been more set on Silver Salmon. As the cohos are slowly building up in numbers we decided to stay on track with King Salmon. All things considered it was a wise decision. Several nice ones were caught with a few in the mid to high 20’s with the biggest just cracking 30 lbs (tyee) as our fellow Canadians would call it.

The 30 lbs came with an interesting story. The boat doubled and the one King Salmon was taken by a sealion not more than 30 feet away from the boat. As the sealion was busy choking it down, Cody Kirk was able to reel in his King Salmon thats just tipped the scale at 30 lbs. TYEE!!! . The boat came to a consensus that the King Salmon grabbed by the sealion was a sacrificial fish for the greater good.

Moving on we are hearing and seeing more numbers of cohos being caught. It is about time they show up as they are very late this year. On the last day of fishing one boat came in with 12 cohos so it is starting to look better and better. It will be interesting to see what fishing our next groups will be experiencing. The captains are going to have to make some tough choices to either target King Salmon or Silver Salmon.
