Fishing

Prince of Wales Fishing Report. 4th of August, 2026.

Well happy days have come, the cohos are in. Event though how hot and heavy the bite is varies from day to day, they are here. Along with the pinks. The crews are hooking a lot of fish. Just not always the desired species.

As I said in my last report the crews are going to have to make some choices what salmon species to target. Fortunately we were blessed with both good weather and good fishing allowing us to target both King Salmon as well as Silver Salmon. Most boats would start the morning with Cohos to then move on to target King Salmon and other species. The boats did well with catching full limits or 3/4 limit of Cohos every day.

The regulations for King Salmon are now up to 4 king salmon annual limit which shows how slow the fleet is catching its quota. But we are doing our best with boats catching 3-6 King Salmon per day.

Bottom fishing is still good for all species such as halibut, yelloweye rockfish and black bass. Unfortunately Lingcod season closed on August 1st so we will not be retaining any more lingcod.

Now we hope that the cohos stay in good numbers as it has been a pretty tough season so far.
