Craig Alaska sport fishing report for Kingfisher Lodge August 25th thru the 30th 2019
August 30, 2019
Craig Alaska Charter fishing for Kingfisher Lodge on Prince of Wales island the past week has been pretty steady considering the weather last week when we experienced high winds and high seas making fishing more difficult. Our boats had 4 GAF to catch and so one day limits of Coho were sacrificed to make time to catch the big halibut. Captain Braden Harding landed his two GAF on the first day plus most of his Coho limit and Captain Nils Backstrome landed his two GAF on the second day of the 3 day trip as well as his Coho limit, Captain Sean Curry landed his limits on day one and three but day two was cut short due to the high winds and rain the guests wanted to come in. The last group of the season is only comprised of 4 anglers and Captain Nils Backstrome is guiding them so yesterday and today he landed his limits of Coho and bottom fish including the black sea bass. He has one more day ending the season but I have on doubt he will accomplish what he has to do landing those limits as weather has been outstanding the past few days and the 10 day forecast
remains very good for wind and sun! Thanks to all for reading my report for the summer although I was late in starting I did keep it consistent for the summer. (Jeff Lundberg from SSRAA who runs the Klawock Hatchery gave me some crap for being “Lazy”) so thanks Jeff for getting on me and I want to thank SSRAA, Jeff Lundberg and his great staff for producing a outstanding run of Coho salmon for Prince of Wales sport fishing in the Craig area as well as Sea Otter sound area. Jeff tells me that as of the day of this writing the Klawock hatchery is responsible for 100,000 Coho contribution to the fishery with 9,000 of those fish to sport, that’s 75,000 more than the next closest hatchery! Great job Klawock hatchery!!
