Fishing

Prince of Wales Island Fishing Report. 8th of August, 2025

They say time flies when you are having fun. It feels like the season just got started and yet here we are with only a few weeks to go before it is time to wrap up the 2025 season.

Fishing for Silver Salmon is still good to great. Boats are getting limits in 1 to 3 hours of fishing. There are some King Salmon around. Some are being caught while mainly targeting cohos, and there are a few spots on the outside that holds some pockets of King Salmon. This last go around we had 18 guests and 12 King Salmon were brought in.

The biggest fish “tail” from the week was “Woody” on Captain Nils’s boat who hooked a King Salmon that he fought for 1 hour and 45 minutes and drug the boat close to 3 miles until finally the rod broke and the fish spooled the line. Unfortunately the crew never got a glimpse of the fish but considering how it fought, a best guess would be a King Salmon weighing somewhere between 50-70 lbs.

All crews did well on bottom fish. Getting limits of nice keeper halibut, some nice GAF halibut along with plenty of of yelloweye and lingcod.
