Fishing

Craig Alaska Charter fishing report for June 17th, Alaska Kingfisher Lodge.

My fishing report for the past 3 fishing days here at Kingfisher Lodge in Craig Alaska covering the outside waters of southern S.E. Alaska, specifically Noyes, Baker and Sumez islands. King salmon fishing has been steady and consistent but not “wide open” as we would all hope. Some days limits of King salmon are had in very short time frames and other days it seems you have to work for the limits. With our large boats with 6 anglers it is sometimes a undertaking to land 6 legal Kings as well as the variety of other species on the list. On day 1 of our groups the boys did pretty well but came up short on a few King salmon. Day 2 was limits for all boats by early morning and last day, yesterday limits were reached by all but one boat. Halibut continue to migrate in and getting 50″ halibut takes time to find these most sought after size fish and not everyone finds them on a consistent basis. Remember a 50″ fish has some age under its belt and if it is a male is is probably substantially older that a female of the same size so the ocean isn’t carpeted with them it is a search or luck at best.

Captain Harding had a GAF permit to fill and landed a very nice 68″ Butt completing his task on day 1 of the 3 day trip, good job Braden!

Tom O’Sullivan group with a very nice 68″ GAF halibut and limit of King salmon as well as great group of anglers!
Harry Saal group with a very nice display of fish not to mention a bunch of great guys!
